talking pattern- Curley Chen
In this task, I employed a variety of different media and materials for creation, such as acrylic paint, watercolor, markers, paper-cutting, oil pastels, tissues paper, and acrylic ink. Among these different media, they can also be combined to produce different effects. for making patters, first select a picture and then patting. after that, first enlarge an area and then draw a detail picture. The third step is to determine the shape and start making the pattern.

I’ve really enjoyed looking through Curley’s talking colour and talking pattern drawings. Her work explored a range of silhouettes and negative space.I can also see she’s used a wide range of paper and media to communicate what she’s encountered in this project creating a range of textures and colour combinations. For example I particularly like how she’s used buttons to create motifs in her work, these give a 3d shiny textured effect maybe relating to some flowers she saw. I think overall its clear from her drawings that she’s been inspired by nature.
Other drawings I think were successful are those that focus on the texture. Whether that being mark making with pen or collage I think the rough or sketched texture of the inspiration is clearly conveyed in these drawings.
In Curley’s talking colour reflection she’s talks about how she looked at orchids for inspiration, for the rest of the tasks I would love to hear what her inspiration was that inspired her patterns.
In her talking pattern reflection She explains how she created her patterned artworks and what she created them with, this is something I would love to hear for all the drawings in this task.
I think the next step she could take would be to briefly imagine how these patterns could be interpreted as knit. She has a great range of textures in her work that could be interpreted with many knits techniques by a mix of different yarns.
I think Curley has produced a good body of work with clear links between her inspiration, colour drawings and pattern choices.
