Talking colour
Reflection:
To explore London’s colours I have focused on those in my day-to-day life: my bedroom, ingredients, walks/cycles and flowers. I used varied materials such as pastels, paints and markers to find texture and colour in my subjects. The continuous line in combination with the watercolour of the tulips stands out to me as an illustration. The colours of the flower gently blend and are refined by the singular line from the pen. I enjoyed illustrating the food in my fridge as this was a new subject for me to draw and showed some vivid new colours. In future I would like to develop more mixed media pieces and explore a range of inspirations.

I love how you focused on inspirations in your day to day life, it’s really often people miss the patterns and colors that were so close around them such as the daily walks, food, or even bed room.
In Talking Color, the colors and mark making are very visually matched, it makes these pieces together looks like a real series of collection. In the illustration of flowers, I think you really zoomed in focused on the details of shapes and colors of petals and pistils, which is something I think I’m lacking in my art works. Furthermore, I think you can give it a try to illustrate colors by drawing in a more abstract way and combine more techniques.
In Talking Pattern, I especially like the pattern created inspired by the flower vase and pistils. In color using, the orange and red gradient mixed looks really good together. When you repeated the patterns in various ways, it gives multiple opportunities of creation too. However, I think adding more layers on canvas might be another interesting method when creating patterns. For example like painting on a transparent plastic sheet then layer them together, or stick different materials and medias combining with paintings can give a more three dimensional effect and pops out the highlights.
All in all, I think your works are on the right track for future development! It’s always exciting to see different point of views and ideas collide. And looking forward to future collabs and your further works!
