Intro to :Talking colour ‘
Lola Evans

In talking colour one thing I really struggled with was that the project was not to be realistic but to just show case the colour. I think that I overcomplicated the project as when I thought drawing I thought of realism and fine detailing and precision however this process of talking colour has allowed me to be more open about what can be thought of as a drawing. As I believe drawing isn’t my strong point this project also helped me come out of my comfort zone and try new media that I previously hadn’t experimented with. One process I leant into in this project is watercolour which I had done previously however I had only used it in a way to create realistic paintings. I really enjoyed using watercolours -which are usually used to make light pastel paintings- in a more abstract and geometric way. Moreover i found that when looking for colour in different spaces i was mainly attracted to either nature or fashion and colours or accessories.

I really like your work!!it feels very creative and full of good observation. I can see that you take inspiration from everyday life and things you see around you, like flowers, streets, and small objects. You make these simple things look really interesting in your drawings. I also like how you try different materials such as oil pastels, markers, and digital tools. It shows that you’re open to experimenting and exploring new ideas. The bright colours and bold shapes make your work stand out, and I think you’ve created some really nice textures and compositions. It’s clear that you enjoy the process, and your own style is starting to come through.
Maybe you could make the pieces connect a bit more as a series, like having a clearer theme or story that links them together. Also, thinking a bit more about depth and structure could make your compositions feel even stronger. But overall, I think your work is really fun, expressive, and full of potential.
