Talking Color-chenjie xu
This series of paintings employs a variety of techniques—some realistic, others more spontaneous—to explore how different styles alter the visual impact. Take the rabbit, for instance: I layered coloured pencils to achieve that plush, furry texture. The abstract blue-green piece was an experiment in rhythm, created through freehand lines and splashes of colour. The red flowers are rather exaggerated, employing strong contrasts to inject vigour into the composition. For the black cat seen from behind, I deliberately left expanses of blank space, seeking only to preserve that tranquil atmosphere. For the two bear paintings, I contrasted sketchy lines with thickly applied paint to explore differing emotional effects. The final floral and architectural line studies were exercises in line control and structural composition. Completing this series confirmed how distinct materials and techniques yield entirely different moods. It also clarified that my primary concern in painting isn’t formalism, but whether I can truly convey that feeling. Text content
