Peer reflection

My peer reflection of Sabrina’s work:

Sabrina’s interpretation of colour and pattern throughout London is of great range, technique and inspirations. Her initial group artwork after visiting the Tate’s Emily Kam Kngwarray exhibition is intriguing. I am drawn to many areas of the artwork and can see a clear colour palette and thought process. Her individual artwork exploring the same artist shows how the artists theme could be interpreted in her own way, I particularly like the use of a hole-punch to create artworks that are opposite to each other- showing glimpses of the page underneath and the other appearing as if an image is forming through the dots. Sabrina has effectively understood how colour and pattern can be used together and in contrast however I feel this particular dotted piece could be a better representation of pattern opposed to colour.

I admire her use of unconventional materials, her tomato prints show an explosive use of colour whilst being all together warm and fuzzy- this is something I can see consistently in her work.

Sabrina’s work exploring emotion through illustration is something I find quite interesting, she is not limited to the canvas and has continued beyond the border of the page. I believe this emphasizes her point of view. I particularly like the use of string to show shape and direction.

Overall I would say that Sabrina has explored the theme of pattern and colour well creating a consistent yet varied response. I would like to see how these pieces could be interpreted further into a knit. In future I would also encourage her to explore the tin-foil art further, her dynamic use of colour would work well on this raised surface in a new and exciting way.
