In this exercise of pattern design, I experimented with various techniques including spray painting, line drawing, and repeating motifs. Throughout the creative process, I found myself particularly captivated by the layered effects of colour—where shades of varying intensity create a sense of depth within the composition. The soft, hazy effect achieved through the natural bleeding of colours in the spray-painted pieces proved especially striking. I hold a particular affection for this mist-like, ethereal quality of colour, as if the patterns were gradually emerging from the background. Another set of experiments focused on repeating shapes and linear arrangements, such as the combination of circles and straight lines. Though these compositions are formally simple, they possess a strong sense of rhythm when presented, deepening my understanding of the essence of ‘pattern’—that it transcends mere decoration, possessing an inherent logic and rhythmic system.

Throughout the creative process, I increasingly gravitated towards low-saturation hues; deeper colour palettes resonated more profoundly with my aesthetic sensibilities. Moving forward, I intend to continue this approach of soft layering while experimenting with bolder colour combinations and denser arrangements to heighten visual impact. Overall, this practice has afforded me a clearer appreciation of the pure delight and creative freedom inherent in pattern design.
